about
In early 2017, I watched a lot of Ingmar Bergman films and combined that inspiration with an experience I had a few months prior in which I struggled to practice my vocals due to overpowering emotions. The result is this song!
lyrics
A boy at school told me crying's for girls
And that's what I saw on TV
But a mentor of mine told me tears are God
Reaching deep down into me
When I weep I want to rip off all my skin in little chunks and throw it in God's face
When I weep I want to scream so loud my voice grows horns that rip through time and space
But I know that won't get me too far
So instead, I'll just strum these strings so hard
I can't sing when I'm cryin', but I sure can play guitar
So I reached for the jar with the diamond lid
And I bottled the tears up tight
But then came the day that I had to face
That some things don't turn out right
When I weep I want to grab the moon and squeeze it 'til the Earth is drowning in its juice
When I weep I want to rip out every hair I have and tie them in the softest noose
But I know that won't get me too far
So instead, I'll just strum these strings so hard
I can't sing when I'm cryin', but I sure can play guitar
There was nothing false about the Disney trips
But that doesn't mean my parents won't die
And there's nothing false about the love I give
But some nights I still have to sigh
When I weep I want my face to haunt the dreams of everyone who's ever left me scared
When I weep I want to shrink so small you couldn't find the burden even if you cared
But I know that won't get me too far
So instead, I'll just strum these strings so hard
I can't sing when I'm cryin', but I sure can play guitar
